It's my turn to host Tawanda book group this month. I picked the fourth Sunday, because one person said she would be busy on the third, and suggested that we meet at lunch time, so we could sit outside. Everyone who responded said lunch outside was a good idea, but two people can't make it, two people can, three said maybe (including the one who was busy on the third Sunday), and two haven't replied. I'm feeling a bit "guess I'll go eat worms."

I decided to have my house cleaned before letting people in it. So first I need to declutter. I had a whole month when I made the housecleaning appointment but somehow it has turned into two weeks. I also have to find space to put away my daughter's stuff; she moved out of the National Park Service housing in May, and has just gone back to New Mexico for a few months, living in a room in someone's house, so half her stuff is still here.

I made a mountain of clothes to take to the thrift store. I am embarrassed that I still had that many clothes that no longer fit me or anyone in my family, but soon I will not have them!

If the housecleaning costs $275, how much would you tip?

Is it through an agency, or does the cleaner work for themselves?

Because if its through an agency, they won't get to keep as much of the $275 as they would if they work for themselves -

so you might want to tip more if its through an agency

less if they work for themselves

We usually tip $10 or $20 a person for our two bedroom house. The latter is high, but we don't get our house cleaned all that often, so I think it is better to round up. If it's only one person, I would go higher.

Do you know how many people are in the cleaning crew? When I was paying around $200 for 2 cleaners I sometimes left $20 each and sometimes $10 each. The cleaners I now hire occasionally who are self-employed charge $110, and I usually leave an extra $10 x 2. Tipping more makes me feel less embarrassed about my messy dirty surroundings. Also, I've almost never paid them face-to-face because that works better for my schedule and my version of shy awkward - I leave the cash along with a cheque, a thank-you note, and whatever instructions they need.

That's a really cute video of the vulture hanging out with the gliders.
